Have you considered altering the design of your home to give it a more Mediterranean look? You can do this fairly easily. With some Mediterranean furniture as well as some Mediterranean decor, the look and feel of your home can be completely changed.

The reason that this style is called Mediterranean is that it reflects the design of homes built in the areas that border the Mediterranean Sea. Included in this region are such areas as Turkey, Northern Africa, Tuscany, Italy, Southern Spain, Greece and Provence in France. Anything that is traditionally used in homes in this region can be used in this type of design.

Homes in these areas tend to be very open and have lots of light and air. Therefore, this is the same general feeling that you want to evoke. The colors used are the colors that reflect the region as well. Therefore, if you just stop and think about these areas, you will know exactly what colors can be used.

Basically, you are choosing colors that reflect the Mediterranean landscape. You can either use colors that fit anywhere in the region or you can decide to focus on one country in particular. For example, you can use blues for any region as it calls to mind the sea. In Greece, blues are used as accents to go with the white washed homes.

For a hint of Provence, you might want to use the yellow of sunflowers, the lavender of lavender flowers, the olive of olives in addition to the blue of the sea. Actually, olives are grown in much of the Mediterranean region so makes a good color to include. In all of the areas, but especially Northern Africa, terracotta is used.

Terracotta is often used specifically in tiling, especially for floors or for walls in the kitchen and bathroom. A common technique is to use plain terracotta tiling with more colorful tiles interspersed. Terracotta pottery is often used for accents throughout the various rooms in the house. In particular, you can use terracotta cooking pots for the kitchen.

When it comes to the furniture, this is generally simple and made from either wood or wrought iron. Again, you want the feel of the space to be open, so you do not want to have too many pieces in one room. Furniture is also often accented with colorful tiles or, in some cases, stained glass.

Any materials used for your decor should be natural ones. The Mediterranean look is based on simplicity. Accents to consider are wrought iron candle holders, rugs handcrafted in regional fashion, Mediterranean style paintings and terracotta pottery.

You want the space to have an older, even timeless feel to it. Therefore, when you paint, in addition to choosing colors of the regional palette, you should also think about texture. There are techniques you can use to create a plaster like effect on the walls.

The key is to make all your choices ones that fit the style and color of this region. There is a great deal to pick from so you should find it pretty easy. In the end, you will have created a space that will transport you to the sea and sun.

Of all holidays and special occasions, Mother’s Day is one that is full of memories, longing and thanks for everyone. This one day of the year is when we take a moment to pay tribute to that one person to whom we each owe so much. The love of a mother is unconditional and eternal, and on Mother’s Day children, young and old, take the time to honor her in return. We do this by writing letters, sending cards and flowers, and buying or making presents for our mothers. One of the most touching tributes is reading or writing Mother’s Day poems.

You can find copies of some of the finest Mother’s Day poems in many flower and gift shops. There are also thousands more that are available in books or libraries. These poems range from being quirky and humorous to sad and deeply poignant. In fact, the writings that contain deeply felt emotions are the ones most people will choose to send. Children want to express how they feel in their hearts about their beloved mothers and even husbands choose these lovingly written cards to give both their mothers and their wives. Poems about mothers or about a mother’s love have been one of the favorite topics of writers for centuries. Every country and civilization has many examples and there are few top poets that do not have at least one poem dedicated to a mother or motherhood.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Bertolt Brecht, Robert Louis Stevenson, Robert Burns and Henry Van Dyke are only a few who have written poems in honor of mothers. These stanzas are able to strike a chord in people who live in countries around the world because they can identify with the sentiments. The love and care of a doting, patient mother is one of those universal experiences that almost everyone shares. There are only a few exceptions that occur and this is when a mother dies during, or after, childbirth; or when the mother and child bond is severed for some other tragic reason.

To motherless children, of any age, Mothers Day poems contain sentimentality unlike any other type of writing. The ideas and emotions that are expressed within the lines never fail to stir their hearts and souls. These words they read also create a longing in them to experience those feelings of a mother’s deep and patient love.

Many of the Mother’s Day poems that are popular for this special occasion will bring smiles and tears to the eyes of both sender and recipient. The depth of feeling in many of these is unabashedly sentimental and will tug at the heartstrings as the words bring back memories of years that have passed too quickly. Mothers Day is one of the most popular of all occasions and it holds many records. There are more cards and flowers bought at this time of year than any other. Even phone calls on Mother’s Day will fill the airwaves as children anxiously and eagerly make contact with that one person in the world who has always loved and cared for them, their Mother.

The second Sunday in May is celebrated as Mother’s Day not only in the United States, but also in forty other countries. Ancient Greeks celebrated a holiday in honor of Rhea, the mother of the gods. Ancient Romans celebrated a holiday in honor of Cybele, a mother goddess Today mothers are offered flowers. Most significantly carnations, symbolize mother’s day.

The best way to show appreciation for the special person on this day is to say it with flowers. It is a peak sale period for flowers, as almost everyone would be celebrating Mother’s Day. Planning ahead is a good idea if there is a particular arrangement of any exotic flowers that needs to be ordered. Purchasing a bunch or a bouquet from the local florist is an easy option, if the gift is to be delivered personally. However, in the case of long distances, the area florist would have to be trusted to make an out station delivery. Same day delivery is available in most areas, otherwise next day deliveries is more the norm. In certain cases the time zone has to be considered while placing a request. Florist deliveries are generally not available on Sundays or legal holidays.

Shopping online is a convenient method of making a suitable purchase from the comfort of home or in the case of a busy schedule. Online florists offer an assortment of arrangements to choose from through their catalogs. Catalogs display pictures of the actual flowers in their arrangements, sizes and the relevant prices. At times, in spite of carefully choosing the advertised floral gift, it is possible that the exact bouquet pictured, or requested, may not be available for delivery, due to various seasonal and regional conditions, in the availability of flowers. During such an event, the local florist will deliver a second choice of similar flowers, and container of equal value, and beauty closely themed. This is a disadvantage of on line shopping.

I want to make table centerpiece arrangements for my birthday using white and pink tulips. The vases I am using are mirrored mosaic (non see-thru) about 20 inches tall. It’s going to be easiest if you use a brick of dry foam in the vase. The brand I use is Sahara by Oasis, but there are others. Just make sure it’s meant to be a dry foam used with silks, and not a foam to be soaked with water for use with fresh flowers. The brick should fit tightly in the container. Use two, if necessary. To conceal the foam, I use some spanish moss or some sheet moss stretched thin over the top of the foam.

You insert the stems right through the moss. Try to insert the stems at least a good 2 inches to be sure the flowers hold in place. One of the best things about working with silks is that you can bend the stems in any direction you like. Toward the middle, leave the stems relatively straight, but around the edges of the vase, give them a nice outward curve.

Also, don’t be afraid to stagger the heights. If they’re all on the same plain, the arrangement is going to seem flat and uninteresting. If you put a few flowers slightly deeper than the surrounding ones, it will keep the viewer’s eye interested. Additionally, I recommend to use a little bit of clustering – put a few white tulips together in some areas, a few pink in other areas, and alternate in between. Using small groupings of like colors makes a bigger visual impact than if you distribute them completely evenly.

Ideally, the vase should make up just 1/3 of the height of the overall arrangement. Since you’re working with such a tall vase, this might not be possible. But I would recommend to leave the stems as long as possible. You want the flowers and the vase, because it’s decorative, to gain the same amount of attention. If the stems are too short, the flowers are going to lose any focus and appear rather unimpressive. Try to make sure that you keep the idea of how you would like your flower arrangement to look like and stay with it. But I think that that you be a very nice center piece.

I want to make an arrangement in a large 25 inch floor vase but am not sure what type of flower and what shape to give the arrangement. The vase is made of metal, is oval at the top, a smaller neck and flares rounded at the bottom. It has the colors of dark brown, gray, and shows grape leaves and bunches of grapes at the bottom. I would go with flowers that you might find in a garden to give it a wild, airy look.

Curly willow should certainly be used, in my opinion, and perhaps some grape vine, too. You’ll want to use some tall flowers that grow on stocks. For flowers, I’d go with things like crab apple blossoms and larkspur for height. I think hydrangeas would be a nice touch to fill around the bottom. Maybe use alstroemeria throughout the arrangement, as well. Don’t forget the importance of greenery. I think some ivy trailing from the mouth of the vase would look nice. Colors of cream, and shades of purple would be appropriate.

But just remember that if you go this way that you want to have people stop and look at the arrangement. Try not to get the greenery to long when you are doing your arrangement. But if you can only get it long then use the greenery. You could try raping it around the vase from bottom to top and you can even make it look as though it is going up the wall. Just make sure you have the idea of what you want it to look like before you put it together.

Have you ever noticed that kids always pick flowers? No one teaches them to, they just do. It’s like they gravitate to them in the spring and summer. I remember when my daughter was about two and my dad brought me flowers and she wanted to smell them and touch them. It’s almost like an instinct to admire flowers and appreciate their beauty. As much as we teach our children, some things just seem to come already instilled in them. It amazes me, watching little kids as young as toddlers, picking flowers for there moms, and how proud they are when they do. Mothers Day is such a great holiday for flowers for this reason alone. It seems that children as young as two years old, know that flowers make their moms happy.

As a young child, I didn’t pay attention to the different kinds of flowers, I just knew I liked them all. I now understand that for myself, each kind of flower signifies something different to me. For example receiving roses are a sign of love. The smell of a fragrant hyacinth reminds me of Easter, because my dad has gotten me one every year for as long as I can remember. Then of course you have sunflowers which takes me back to when I was about 4 years old at my grandmothers house, because she grew them in her back yard.

Giving flowers has also become a tradition to most people on Mothers Day. The tradition is passed on from generation to generation but what it means to the mother can be different for each person. Why not try giving your Mom a new type of flower each year so that she can make a new memory and associate it with the flower.

Needless to say it seems that we are born to love flowers and know that we can make are moms happy just by giving her some. Mothers Day just seems to be the perfect day to make sure we make our mom happy by giving her the one thing that we have been giving her for our whole lives. No matter what kind of flower you decide suits your mom best, you can never go wrong when trying to make your mom feel special and loved on Mothers Day, than when you get her a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

Anna Jarvis, daughter of Anna Reeves Jarvis, was the power behind the official establishment of Mother’s Day. As a youngster, she helped her mother look after her flower garden that comprised of a large number of white carnations. Incidentally they were her mother’s favorite flowers. When Mrs. Jarvis died on May 5, 1905, Anna was determined to honor her. She had made it her life’s mission to continue her mother’s project, and establish a Mother’s Day, to honor mothers living and dead. In 1907, she passed out 500 white carnations at her mother’s church, one for each mother in the congregation. Though the governor of West Virginia declared the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day in 1910, it gained popularity in 1915.

People often give their mothers red carnations, the official Mother’s Day flower. If their mothers are deceased they may bring white carnations to their graves. This is the peak sales time for florists across America. There are numerous unique arrangements, and a wide assortment of flowers for the occasion. It is obvious that flower preferences vary widely so stores offer a wide range of flowers.

Mothers Day flowers must be ordered early, so that they are delivered on time. A request to include a special note with a personal sentiment can be made. Food is arranged on a tray with a vase containing a single flower. It is a Spring Time celebration, and children can pick a tulip or a daffodil from the garden outside. Cards and small presents from the children are placed on the tray before it is presented to the mother in bed. Unique flowers for mother’s day are available at local flower shops, florists and online stores. Potential buyers may indulge in comparison-shopping in order to find an affordable and feasible unique flowers deal.

Mother’s Day comes and goes every year without a hitch except one. Some of us have to watch as others cherish and give honor to a human being that knows no boundaries when it comes to love. That is why flowers are the natural choice to show that special woman how really blessed we are to have her in our lives.

Flowers are always the natural choice to give the loving Woman in our lives. I mean just have a real good look at the flower. It is a magnificent piece of nature that mirrors each and every unique personality our mother’s have. I live on the west coast where flowers of all types get nourished with more than usual moisture. Flowers grow everywhere.

It is no wonder that the flower of choice to give on Mother’s Day would be the rose. A neighbor of mine grows these beautiful things in a variety of species. A rose is not just any rose. Each one looks smells and blooms at slightly different times of the year.

You cannot go out the day before and stick the flowers in the fridge thinking that they will be just as fresh when the special day comes around. Just about any bouquet of flowers has to be carefully picked and delivered with well thought out timing. That is why most men are grateful for the Mother’s Day delivery services all around the globe.

Not all families seem to stick together in the same cities today. We are basically torn apart for a number of reasons. But it should not stop us from giving thanks to the most fascinating creature on this planet.

Come this Mother’s Day, my wife and I will remember our Mothers and be thankful for the years they both gave us. The love they showered us with and the great patience and understanding that took place as we were raised.

Take special care this year to remember your Mother. I know we will.

Mothers Day approaches again, 14th March this year and your thoughts will turn to what to get your Mum that will please her on the special day.

Flowers by post from Guernsey are a good place to start. Giving her flowers is an old tradition started when children would pick a posy of flowers from their gardens to take to church on Mothers Day to make a procession and present them to their Mums.

So you say OK, flowers by post it is, they don’t cost too much and are fresh picked and packed but, what of the rumours I have recently heard? Some flowers are edible! Oh no, if you choose to buy her these blooms will she be tucking into them instead of admiring them in a vase?

Which flowers are edible then and which are high risk from your point of view, of your Mum eating the flowers and putting the chocs in a vase.

Well carnations are one of the main culprits here, for eons of years their petals have been used in cooking and in salads, in fact they are one of the secret ingredients in the liqueur Chartreuse. The petals have to be removed and the white bits at the bottom cut off, but then it seems, they get eaten or cooked for the bitter flavour they impart.

Another risky bloom to give her would be marigolds, the flowers not the rubber gloves, although if she is looking likely to start chomping, then maybe gloves would indeed be a better choice. Floral marigold petals are widely used in soups and salads and give a spicy taste. So they say, I haven’t been tempted to eat any as yet.

Then there are chrysanthemums, a popular choice of flower for Mothers Day due to their lasting qualities but beware, they get eaten too in many parts of the world, they are tangy and have to be blanched before eating. It may be that colour would come in to the risk equation here, she might be tempted to eat say, yellow ones but not fancy the pink ones.

Well I do jest of course but not completely, these flowers do get eaten and they do give various flavours and colours to Chinese cookery, Thai and Indian dishes not to mention old English recipes for soups and salads. Herbs too have flowers and are used as flavourings without a thought, but somehow that seems ok whilst eating flower petals might be a step too far. It makes no sense but it is often thus in the world of what we will eat and what we won’t.

So how do I end this discourse, I think I will suggest to you that it is worth the risk and that you should look for some fluffy pink carnations, pink is not an edible temptation as would be yellow. So pink carnations will be ok and I have a good company suggestion for them, but if you are feeling doubtful after reading all my ‘health and safety’ risk assessments above, then maybe go for the strictly inedible Guernsey freesias and orchids also from the same grower, you’ll be safe enough.

Valentines holiday is approaching and it is time to select the present that you will give to your lady. Flowers are certainly among the most popular gifts for a man to give to a woman on Valentine’s Day. But they rarely give other flowers as red roses as they commonly think they are the only type of flowers to give on Valentine’s Day. However, there are so many different flowers available on the market each of them having its own way to express your love.

This article will help you to understand the diverse languages of the flowers that will enable you to select the one that best suits the kind of relationship you are celebrating: you won’t be giving the same type of flowers to the mother of your six children as those you gave when she was sixteen.

Shyness could prevent you to confess your love to your lady, avoid this problem by giving her a bouquet of may; which stands for the hopes of a shy heart: “You’re the only woman of my thoughts. Are there any hopes…?” Or you can get some help from multi-coloured pansies that will make her find out that you adore her.

Valentine’s day is is the best day of the year for you to confess your passion so you will be able to do it by sending white gardenia or white carnations as they are associated with secret passion. Blueberries or azalea are another way to dare to confess your passion while multi-coloured tulips are the way to emphasize the segment that this love is sincere and will last forever.

If you want to tell your lady how lovely she is, you will choose red camellia; while white camellias you will ensure her about the stability of your inclination. Jasmine will help you to confess your love in a lot of different ways: white jasmine stands for the sweetness of your feelings; yellow jasmine rhymes with passion and red jasmine symbolizes madness.

While white lilies are the loveliest way to confess the innocence, harmony and purity of your love, the easiest way to explain your faithfullness is made through a bouquet of daisies or orange-blossom. You may go for straw flowers that will confess to your wife how much your love is strong as these flowers always live. If you are passionate, you will give your lady red, white/red or purple fuchsia or flamed iris. As for sensuality and seduction, orchids are their loveliest symbol.

The endlessly famous rose has always symbolized love, but based on the color has some different meanings. Red rose stands for passion; pink rose is the oath that you have taken and charm, joy, glamour and liking. While white stands for for virtue and is most often related to marriage, lavender pink has the meaning of love at first sight and conveys the notion of love at first sight. Orange roses will tell your sweetie that you find her exciting and seductive. Blue roses express a gentle peace and serenity and full-bloomed roses stand for your engagement.

There are flowers that will tell your lady of your perseverance and the engagement to love her till the end of time, with no regards to the ups and downs of your life: yellow, blue or red anemones. Brown or red amaranth is a symbol of an eternal devotion as well.

Valentine’s Day is a holiday celebrated by teenagers as well. While those that discover love with their first girlfriend will send her primroses or a pot of crocus as they stand for a puppy love; teenagers by that time in a long lasting relationship will choose to give a bunch of blue iris.

Valentine’s day is not exclusively reserved to those that celebrate love, it also allows us to celebrate your friends. White or purple lilac stand for simplicity and sincerity. Otherwise, wisteria would tell your friends how much you care about them; after all, the residents of Wisteria Lane (Desperate Housewives) are the best friends!

Actually, flowers are so popular that, many men give flowers along with other gifts such as an adorable teddy bear, a box of Belgian chocolates or some delicious, hand-dipped, chocolate covered cherries. Indeed, there there is a huge number of passion that can be revealed through the language of the flowers. The puzzling problem is is to select the right one. Whatever you do do it with gusto and with the purpose of making the lady of your life feel exceptional and in turn she surely will make you feel exceptional! Happy Valentine’s Day!
