The idea of Mothers day was initiated by Anna Jarvis in the early 90s. Later in the year 1914, President Woodrow Wilson officially declared the second Sunday of May to be the Mother’s Day. And the day was celebrated as a public holiday. Since then the tradition has been continuing and till this day, every year, we celebrate the day with due respect and love for our mothers.

Mother’s Day is filled with different types of celebrations. The nature of celebration varies in different countries and continents. However, with the spread of globalization, even the people located in the remote corners of the earth have become more aware of the day and its importance. Flowers are an inevitable part of our Mother’s Day celebration. Mother’s Day flowers are special and they hold a special meaning to the giver and the receiver.

Flowers have always been associated with woman and all the celebrations involving woman. Flowers play an important role in our routine life. It is a tradition in our western world to meet and greet people with flowers. Besides western culture, flowers hold a special place in Asian countries like India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Indonesia etc. In these places; flowers are mainly used for worshiping purposes. They are primarily considered as a symbol of sacredness. However, even in these countries western culture and mannerisms have seeped in quite rapidly. And today they celebrate events like mother’s day and Valentines Day by present their loved ones with flowers and other gifts. Accordingly, prices of flowers and bouquets are also rising. But prices again depend on the quality and availability of the flowers used.

Mother’s Day hold a special importance in every individual’s life. And to sanctify the specialty of this day, one should choose a special gift for his or her mother. And flowers make up for the most valuable and purest gift you can ever find. It is true that flowers wither away in few days, but the joy it presents to the receiver on that special occasion is something that cannot be compared with anything else in this world.

Different flowers are associated with different occasions. The most popular one we know is the rose flower that is deeply associated with Valentines Day. The history says that Anna Jarvis had sent hundreds of white carnations on the first Mother’s Day to the Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church in West Virginia. Although, white carnations have a special importance, people give away different types of flowers on this day. They give more preference to what their mothers would personally like or dislike. And obviously, I would like to present my mom with her most favorite flowers.
